The
2007 National Honors and Awards Program
NACM and the National
Honors and Awards Committee congratulate our 2007
national award recipients.
National Credit
Executive of the Year
The National
Credit Executive Award seeks to single out
an individual who has made significant
contributions to the credit profession at a national
level. Whether it’s through local and national,
local or international Board service, volunteer leadership
is an essential core attribute for award recipients.
A dedication to continued learning and the dogged
pursuit of education is also a must, be it through
attending conferences, seminars or programs. The
National Credit Executive of the Year must be held
in high esteem by his or her peers. Many achievers
are instructors or speakers, intent on sharing both
knowledge and expertise.
Curt Rothlisberger, CCE, CICE is the 2007 National
Credit Executive of the Year. He is the manager, financial
services for Elkay Manufacturing Company in Oak Brook,
IL.
As National Credit Executive of the Year, Curt has
shown a commitment to NACM on both a local and national
level. He has served as chairman of his local Affiliated
Association, NACM Midwest, and is serving on the FCIB
Board of Directors. Exhibiting yet another trait of
the National Credit Executive of the Year, Curt clearly
appreciates the value of higher education, serving
as an adjunct faculty member at Harper College. NACM
Midwest may say it best about Curt when they state, “His
dedication and contribution to the credit community
are outstanding.”
Designation of Excellence Awards
The Designation of
Excellence Awards were created to honor designation
holders at three distinct levels: the CCE, CBF and
CBA. Each honoree must again, have an unrelenting pursuit
of excellence through enhanced and improved knowledge.
Equally important is the desire to share that knowledge
through speaking, teaching or mentoring. |
As
the CCE Designation of Excellence Award recipient,
you must be dedicated to the credit profession,
committed to improving yourself through higher
education and enthusiastic about the difference
you can make. This year’s CCE Designation
of Excellence award is given to Paulyne VanderSloot,
CCE, credit manager for PCS Millwork, Inc. in
Woodinville, WA. Through her work as a mentor,
speaker, local CFDD board member and other activities
supporting NACM and its membership, Paulyne has
epitomized the lofty ideals of the CCE Designation
of Excellence Award. |
Janae
Jeffs, CBF, credit manager for Muir Enterprises
in Salt Lake City, receives the CBFDesignation
of Excellence Award. As a CBF Designation
of Excellence Award recipient, Janae has shown
that she is moving forward in her profession through
continuing education and is devoted to the credit
community as she strives to excel.
|
The CBA
Designation of Excellence Award recipient
is an example for all members who want to begin
their pursuit of higher education and professional
certifications. These eager, motivated role models
work tirelessly to complete courses, take exams,
contribute to their local Affiliate and CFDD and
work full time. This year we honor Mary Moore,
CBA, credit manager for Carlson Systems LLC in
Omaha, NE, with the 2007 CBA Designation of Excellence
Award. |
A
mentor is defined as a wise and trusted teacher
or guide. For some, guiding, nurturing and motivating
those in need is innate. This year’s national Mentor
of the Year is described by her Affiliate
as “tireless in her passion for certifying
credit professionals” and as expounding “the
benefits of NACM education and certification.” Carolyn
Pavlovsky, CCE, North American credit manager with
Tyco Valve & Controls North America, is Mentor
of the Year. She inspires and shares so others
will be motivated and confident as they aspire
for greater targets and more active roles within
the credit community. |
Writing
is both an art and science. It is creative and
technical. To do it well is either a precious gift
or the result of tireless effort and concentration.
Written works can inspire, teach, clarify, impassion,
infuriate and comfort. Achieving just one of these
traits is an accomplishment. For his article published
in the February 2006 issue of Business Credit,
we acknowledge Lloyd Eichorn, CCE with the 2007
Best Article Award. Lloyd, the U.S. director
of credit for Aggregate Industries, authored “Credit
Chameleon: A New Look At Your Job Title.” |
NACM/Robert Half Finance & Accounting and Accountemps
Awards
The Instructor
of the Year is a person who is not only
passionate about sharing their hard earned knowledge,
presenting concepts and explaining the facts but
challenging their students for more. The Instructor
of the Year is a person who works all day and then
rushes to a class to enthusiastically teach as
though the day has just begun. The Instructor of
the Year cares that every student comprehends the
material not just those in the front of the room.
NACM, along with Robert Half International, is
proud to announce that John Jaeger, CCE is the
recipient of the NACM/Robert Half Finance & Accounting
and Accountemps Instructor of the Year Award. |

and RHI & Accountemps logos
Despite what many teenagers might say, education is a
privilege and can be immensely satisfying. But with this
said, it is also a great deal of hard work and can be
just as frustrating, especially when compounded with
work, family, NACM and civic responsibilities. That is
why we honor a Student of the Year...one person who takes
this challenge head-on with a positive attitude and a
determined focus. NACM, along with Robert Half International,
is pleased to recognize Barbara Mackay, credit manager
for Intermountain Concrete Specialties in Salt Lake City,
UT, as the NACM/Robert Half Finance & Accounting
and Accountemps Student of the Year. |
The Strength
in Numbers Recognition Award acknowledges
an individual who has generously and enthusiastically
given of their time and expertise to NACM. This
person is passionate about the vitality of the
Association and wishes to be a proponent for credit
professionals. Phyllis Truitt, CCE, director of
credit for Atlas Van Lines in Evansville, IN is
given the 2007 Strength in Numbers Recognition
Award. It is due to Phyllis’ leadership of
the NACM Products and Services Work Group that
NACM created the Mechanic’s Lien & Bond
Service, the upcoming member Salary Survey and
the new national Job Board.
Chuck Monson, CCE will retire from his position as President
of NACM Inland Northwest early this fall. Chuck earned
his CBF designation in June 1979 and his CCE designation
in May 1982. After serving NACM for more than twenty
years in a member capacity, he became President of NACM
Inland Northwest in 1993. In addition to his 14 years
of service as President, Chuck served on the Affiliate
Council. During his tenure as Council Chair, he also
served on the National Board of Directors. For his years
of service to our organization, NACM honors Chuck with
the Strength in Numbers Award.

Alice M.H. McGregor Award of Exceptional Achievement
This award memorializes
one of NACM’s great leaders, Alice M.H. McGregor,
CCE. In her honor, this highly prestigious award
recognizes creative approaches and consistently high
performance that benefit the recipient’s company,
affiliate, the national organization and the business
credit profession. This award acknowledges exceptional
achievement and service to the profession, honoring
those with an outstanding record of contributions
to the profession. Alice M.H. McGregor award recipients
serve as role models, they are leaders rather than
followers, set standards for others, and apply their
professional expertise outside of their companies.
You need only to look at Alice’s vast and reaching
accomplishments to understand what embodies this
award: Alice was educated at Edinburgh Business College
and the London Graduate School of Business. She was
the first woman to receive the CCE designation and
graduated from NACM’s Graduate School of Credit & Financial
Management in 1978.
She joined Puget Sound Salvage & Equipment Company
in the credit department, and by the time it became
known as Pacific Industrial Supply Company, she was
a co-owner. Ultimately, Alice became the President
of Pacific Industrial Supply Company.
She was well known for her dedicated service within
her local Affiliate, NACM Business Credit Services
in Seattle, Washington, where she was a member for
29 years. She served in many volunteer capacities,
including Chairman. She led many seminars, sharing
her knowledge and expertise, and was a mentor to
everyone she knew. In 1985, NACM Seattle honored
her as their Credit Executive of the Year.
She was a leading figure in NACM-CFDD Seattle and
was named Credit Woman of the year in 1976. Alice
served as National Chairman from 1989 to 1990. When
asked about the secret to her success, Alice would
always simply say, “hard work.”
This year, the Honors & Awards Committee chose
to bestow this prestigious award to Lowell Belk,
CCE. Lowell’s service to the NACM organization – locally,
regionally and nationally – was tireless. Lowell
served his local Affiliate, working through all of
the leadership positions, serving on Committees,
the Board and finally serving as Chairman of the
Board.
Lowell was a teacher and a mentor, speaking on the
topics of credit, and bankruptcy – one of Lowell’s
passions.
The people who nominated Lowell for this award really
said it the best:
“I would like to believe if anyone in our profession
is worthy of receiving the Alice M.H. McGregor
Lifetime Achievement Award, it would be
Lowell Belk. I personally have been in credit for
over 20 years and he has been one of the most influential
people in my career, as well as a friend. He is the
type individual that always takes the time from his
busy schedule to offer advice or direction in any
situation imaginable. He exemplifies the type of
character and class that is not found in but a select
few people.”
“Lowell has been a mentor and example to many
of us in the credit profession, not only in his knowledge
but also his standards and ethics. He maintained
a constant dedication to stay at the forefront of
how technology could be used in our profession, a
skill many of us lose as our years of experience
grow.”
“Lowell has always been a true believer in
the power of credit education, and has supported
every effort to promote the value of continuing to
learn throughout one’s career. I believe Lowell
to be truly deserving of this award, as recognition
of a long and outstanding contribution to the Credit
community, as well as a gentleman of the first order.” |
