Maker’s Mark and Historic Bardstown Tour
Monday, May 19, 2008
8:30am – 3:30pm
$60.00 per person
Venture to Historic Bardstown over the rolling hills of the Bluegrass into the heart of Kentucky’s early settlements. Maker’s Mark is the only operating distillery in America to be designated a National Historic Landmark. Originally built in 1805 as a gristmill distillery, it became the home of Maker’s Mark in 1953. Today, it is the oldest operating distillery on its original site. Here on immaculate, lovingly restored grounds the “little country distiller” still greets guests as it did nearly a century ago. You will enjoy a tour to see how the majority of the steps in the distillery process are still achieved/completed by hand. Dip your own bottle of Maker’s Mark for an additional fee. Lunch will be offered at the historic Old Talbott Tavern, said to be the oldest western stagecoach stop in America as the westward expansion brought explorers from the east into Kentucky. Since the late 1700s, the Old Talbott Tavern on Court Square has provided shelter, food and drink to Kentucky travelers. After lunch, visit Kentucky’s best-known plantation, My Old Kentucky Home at Federal Hill. Immortalized in song by Stephen Foster, My Old Kentucky Home portrays an image of the South’s gentle and leisurely home life before the Civil War. A guided tour will take you through the actual Georgian style mansion. |

8:30am – 4:15pm
$74.00 per person
Louisville’s Glassworks, in the heart of downtown Louisville, is a dynamic effort dedicated to showcasing and teaching glass art in all its forms – hot glass, cold glass and flame working. Through this guided tour, gain an appreciation of the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into each glass creation by watching resident artists, glass blowers, flame workers, cutters and designers create magnificent pieces of glass art.
Next, peruse the masterful creations of Louisville Stoneware. Since 1905, they have produced unique hand-painted designs and bright glazes that add the distinctive touch for which Louisville Stoneware is famous. After a guided tour, you can shop or just browse among the more than 1,800 product combinations available at this unique company.
Rest and rejuvenate at mid-day with lunch at Lynn’s Paradise Café. Louisville's own Lynn Winter opened her little slice of paradise more than a decade ago and has since become a national attraction and local treasure. As unique and quirky as Lynn herself, the Cafe offers the tastiest "down home" cooking, the wackiest decor and genuine southern hospitality.
Last but not least in this day of artistic appreciation is Joe Ley’s Antiques. Housed in an 1890 schoolhouse Joey Ley’s Antiques provides the most unique in unconventional shopping. Two acres of treasures fill this distinctive antique shop with a vast array of styles and merchandise. Constantly changing inventory attracts people from all points abroad and has proved to be a popular place for the filming of country music videos, movies and commercials.
