NACM's 112th Credit Congress and Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky
Credit Congress a Winner From the Start
Everyone came out a winner at NACM's 112th Credit Congress in Louisville. No bets were necessary, this was a guaranteed success. Attendees loved the intimate venue; rose bushes and geraniums lined the streets and convenient pedways to and from the convention center sheltered attendees from brisk weather. Most importantly, the educational offerings and knowledge gained couldn't be beat.
The General Session opened with the official Churchill Downs bugler playing "Call to the Post" and "My Old Kentucky Home." Honors and Awards were presented and Vince Poscente opened his talk perched on top of a chair in his downhill skiing pose quipping, "Don't worry, I won't fall, I'm a professional," to roars of laughter. During his speech on strategies for attaining and sustaining peak performance he offered this piece of advice, "The key to innovation is doing what the competition is not willing to do...Be creative within your boundaries."
U.S. Representative John Yarmuth of Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District in the House of Representatives welcomed attendees to Tuesday's Super Session, which also featured a playful version of "Flight of the Bumblebee" by the Juggernaut Jug Band. Music by the group was followed by Group Membership and GSCFM Awards and a humorous look at the generational divide in the workplace, presented by Cam Marston. Marston provided many laughs in his comparisons of the generations—which he defined by attitude, not birth date—and the tools to overcome the divide.
Many other great events took place during Congress days: the Designee and Alumni Event, the Annual Golf Outing and Silent Auction (both of which raise money for the NACM Scholarship Foundation, various networking luncheons and receptions and the Expo that featured a multitude of credit-related vendors.
Experts in many credit topics led the educational sessions, once again providing a vast array of information and advice critical for credit professionals expanding their knowledge in the field of business credit. "Part of the reason I'm here is that I changed industries," said Donell Jorgensen, Aero Products International, Inc. "I was with a manufacturer and now I'm in consumer products. So, the actual educational classes are important to me."
