Defense Finance Accounting Service

Website of the Month

Regulations.gov
I know that I have featured this website before, however Regulations.gov has a great new look. The website is much more user-friendly and less congested than before. Plus, it doesn't take the site forever to download. Click on the "What's Hot" button and you instantly see all the most viewed regulations. You might also want to read up on the OJJDP Proposed Plan for FY2010. This ruling is now closed for comments, however, it relates to Vendor Payables and will be featured in the next newsletter. When you click on "Regulations With Comments," you get a great opportunity to read comments from organizations, individuals and those the ruling will affect. I have bookmarked this website as a favorite.

As of 2006, DFAS Columbus became the Center of Excellence for Acquisition Accounting for the Department of Defense. DFAS performs many functions that not only include Accounting Operations, but also Travel Pay and Disbursing. Since BRAC implementation and the closing of some DFAS offices, DFAS Columbus has taken on the responsibility of many of these DFAS locations.

Accounting Operations, the largest part of the Operations Deputy's realm within DFAS, is comprised of the following functional areas: Accounts Payable (formerly Contract Pay and Vendor Pay), Accounts Receivable, Accounts Maintenance and Control, the Customer Call Center, Systems Operations and Departmental Reporting.

Contractors can obtain a copy of the DFAS Contractor and Vendor Payment Information Guide online at http://www.dfas.mil/contractorpay/ContractPayInformation011110.pdf.

General Services Administration

Start looking for those GSA Schedules on which to bid. GSA's funding has increased and has money to spend. According to the GSA website, most of the funding will be placed in the following areas:

  • Federal building conversion to high-performance green spaces: $4.5 billion
  • Federal building and courthouse renovations: $750 million
  • Fuel-efficient vehicles: $300 million
  • Land ports of entry renovation and construction: $300 million

The GSA is also part of the American Recovery Act, and its agenda includes extra funding for increased green construction, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, nationally managed and regionally executed programs, and promoting transparency in government projects. So keep watching out for those available GSA contracts. If you are not currently doing business with the GSA, visit www.gsa.gov to find out how you can be part of this great opportunity.
